Customizing annotation options
CaptureDent™ comes pre-programmed with a variety of standard captions you can pick from when placing annotations on a photo on the “Process” page.
Every time you place an annotation marker on an image, a dialog box will appear that lets you choose a caption from a list or type in your own. This dialog also lets you pick a color for the annotation marker and another for the caption text, so they’ll contrast with the photographic background and be easy to read.
If you like, you can change the contents of the pick list to reflect what you most often type in. This way, rather than typing in one or more words a user can drop down the pick list and select a caption with a few quick mouse (or light pen) gestures.
There are two ways to alter the annotation captions. You can…
- use the CaptureDent Start-up Wizard, or
- edit the Capture.ini file directly, using Windows Notepad or a similar plain text editor program.
Unless you’re a technically skilled “power user,” the Start-up Wizard is for you. Trained CaptureDent support personnel and experienced, tech-savvy users may edit Capture.ini directly, but ought always to be careful to make a backup copy for safety.
Tip: It’s not necessary to change the annotation caption list. You might find that it fits your needs as provided.
If you do change the annotation caption list, even at a later date, it will not affect any annotations you may already have placed on images. Once placed, every annotation is an independent entity, not connected to the original. You may also edit individual annotation captions without affecting the pick list.
For further information on placing and editing annotations, see the Annotating images section of this manual and the section on the “Process” page in the Reference chapter.
